Junior high school students’ perception of the use of comic and their english writing quality / Puput Maulinda

Abstrak
The teaching of English writing has been started in the Junior High School (JHS) level. However the students often find it difficult to write if they are asked to write directly out of their mind. Therefore it is necessary to get students rsquo attention by using interesting media or techniques. Comic is proposed to be used in the teaching and learning of English writing because comic has good features good organization and an interesting form. This research aims at finding out JHS students rsquo perception of the use of comic and their English writing quality. Survey research design was applied in this research. A questionnaire and students rsquo final drafts used as instrument for collecting data. This research involved eight grade students of Junior High School 9 at Malang City East Java Indonesia. The result of this research shows that students had positive perception of the use of comic and their English writing quality. Also the students rsquo English writing quality has high quality. They considered that comic was a helpful form of media for learning and practicing writing narrative texts. They also thought that comic successfully improved the quality of narrative texts they wrote.
