Keywords action research reading comprehension PQRST strategy This study is conducted to implement one of the reading strategies to improve the students reading comprehension by using the PQRST strategy. The students from the Pharmacy Department have problems found in the students reading quiz and the mid-term test. Based on the tests the results presented that the students of Pharmacy C could not obtain the minimum standard used in the Language Center (LC). The minimum standard used by the LC is 55 but the standard used by the SNDIKTI is 70. The students problems are difficult to identify the main idea and supporting details from the text. It based on the learning objectives used in teaching English. The implementation of the PQRST strategy is expected to help students in reading comprehension. Using Action Research as the design of this study is the basic design to solve the students problems happened in a certain class. The design employed planning implementing observing and reflecting steps that should be followed when the teaching activities take place. The PQRST strategy will be implemented in the implementation step of the Action Research The criteria for success of this study focuses on the students reading skills. The study is considered as successful when all students obtain the minimum standard score used by the researcher based on SNDIKTI. That is 70. The students participation is also categorized successful if half the students are active participants in the reading class. The findings of the study presented the students achievements in reading quiz II and the posttest. The students results of quiz II showed that the students score increased in quiz II but still under the minimum standard used by SNDIKTI. However the posttest score presented the students increasing number of the posttest and half of the students have been increased the score. The observation checklist also one of the instruments used by the researcher to see the implementation of the PQRST strategy in class. the questionnaire for students the students perception that is given after the implementation of the strategy. The improvement of the results demonstrated that the implementation of the PQRST strategy is able to solve the Pharmacy Department students in reading comprehension. Therefore academic staff is encouraged to use the same strategy in their teaching English.
