A survey of students’ perception about online class through whatsapp in ELT students / Fika Ahsantu Dhonni

Abstrak
Abstract Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19) has affected education system around the world at the moment schools and universities are not able to continue face-to-face meetings including Universitas Negeri Malang. Regarding to this issue online class is a good alternative besides face-to-face class. On the other hand since education system in Indonesia tend to use conventional system yet online class is not commonly used among the students. Therefore this study needs to be explored especially from the perspective of students. This study aimed to explore the ELT students perceptions about online class during pandemic. This study used a descriptive quantitative method. Result of this study showed that the students had positive responses towards online teaching and learning process via WhatsApp. However the students still need direct interaction which involve affection from their teacher which cannot be obtained through online class. In conclusion WhatsApp as a supplement strategy proved as a successful strategy to support offline learning activity during pandemic.
