Liberal feminism values seen through the female main character in Octavia Butler\'s Kindred / Arga Nur Isnaini
Abstrak
This article examines the characterization of the main character of Octavia Butler rsquo s Kindred. It particularly interested in investigating her personality and discussing whether she can be categorized as a liberal feminist. After a thorough formalist analysis it is found that the main character in question Dana is a representation of a liberal feminist. She is not only strong independent and intelligent but also fights against gender-based violence and discrimination. Her struggle for the latter does not revolve around fighting against men instead it is about fighting for equal treatment and rights for the sake of humanity which differentiates her from radical feminists.
