Students’ and teachers’ perceptions of the effectiveness of online english vocabulary learning during the pandemic / Khoirul Anam

Abstrak
Vocabulary is an important language element in the learning of English. Without adequate vocabulary students cannot understand the meaning of a sentence. Currently vocabulary learning in schools has been disrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic therefore schools implement online learning. This study aims to describe students rsquo and teachers rsquo perceptions of the effectiveness of the implementation of online English vocabulary learning during the pandemic. Data were collected from 88 students of Class VIII and 2 English teachers of Public Junior High School 1 at Tumpang District of Malang Regency Indonesia. The results showed that the students and the teachers perceived that online English vocabulary learning was implemented effectively in the school even though there were some obstacles. Some students thought that the use of gadgets that are too long caused disruption of eye health. They also stated that they tended to be less enthusiastic in online English vocabulary learning compared to offline English vocabulary learning at school.
