Students’ preferences towards types of oral corrective feedback for their oral proficiency improvement in speaking class / Lailatul Nurjanah

Abstrak
This study discusses students preferences for the types of oral corrective feedback for oral proficiency improvement in speaking class. This study aims to provide more insight into the suitability of teachers and students beliefs which can also help teachers or lectures to determine the type of OCF that is effective for student learning development. This research is also useful for adding insight into oral corrective feedback in the context of education in Indonesia so that learning activities can be carried out on an evidence-based learning. This research was conducted at Universitas Negeri Malang especially in the Department of English. This study used descriptive quantitative using survey. The data collection instrument is a questionnaire that was distributed to 116 respondents. The findings show that paying attention to students feelings and preferences when giving OCF is very necessary because it relates to the type of feedback selected and its delivery to students. The most preferred OCF types for students in the context of ldquo ways of giving or delivery rdquo are metalinguistic and recast feedback types. However there has been a slight unalignment on the results of students preference of the types of OCF in the context of ldquo being helpful for students proficiency improvement Metalinguistic repetition and recast types of OCF are most desired in the context of helping students proficiency improvement. Then related to the timing of OCF administration indirect OCF is more desirable than direct OCF.
