Ele Students’ Perception Of Their Speaking Anxiety / Ihza Abhirawa Yudha

Abstrak
Anxiety has a tremendous effect on students who want to learn English. Therefore this research is designed to investigate students rsquo perceptions of speaking anxiety towards English Language Teaching students at Universitas Negeri Malang. Twenty-four students participated in this research. This quantitative research investigated students rsquo perceptions and the factors that affecting students rsquo speaking anxiety. The research was conducted using a questionnaire by google spreadsheet and interview by google meet. The findings show that 9 students (37.5%) have low anxiety 15 students (62.5 %) have moderate anxiety and 0 students have high anxiety. Other findings show that the factors that make the students feel anxious when they try to speak up are low self-esteem linguistic incompetence an unconducive environment and self-doubt. The anxiety commonly occurs when they have to lack preparation. Aside from that it was a lack of relaxation and lack of positive thinking. From the result obtained we can conclude that the students face many obstacles when speaking English.
