The use of memrise to improve eighth graders’ vocabulary mastery / Tiara Meilina

Abstrak
One of the commonly used strategies for improving language learners rsquo vocabulary mastery is using interesting and suitable language learning applications. The focus of this research is to increase students rsquo vocabulary knowledge through the use of Memrise. The study employed the Classroom Action Research design (CAR). In the Academic Year of 2020/2021 31 students in year eight at SMPN 4 Madiun participated in the study. The study was carried out in four meetings during one cycle of CAR. Observation checklists field notes and questionnaires were utilized to collect data. The data analysis results revealed that students rsquo final scores considerably improved compared to the initial test results. The early results showed that around 55 percent of the students scored above 75 while the remaining 45 percent scored below 75. The final test resulted in a considerable difference from the preliminary test. The final test results revealed that 90 percent scored over 75 while the remaining 10 percent scored below 75. The results suggest that using Memrise helps students easily enhance their vocabulary.
