Abstrak
Indonesia has applied the 2013 Curriculum that emphasizes on student-centered and interactive-cooperative learning. It was reflected in the spirit of Curriculum 2013 that is in line with Communicative Language Teaching (CLT). The CLT is one of the methods that supports the 2013 Curriculum and builds communicative competence in the 21st century. Therefore it is essential to have learning materials that fit the method and contain elements of communicativeness. Thus textbook evaluation is needed. This study aims to analyze and evaluate the communicative activities in the textbook Forward an English Course for Vocational School Students Grade XI Semester 1. The human investigator and checklist were being used in this study. A checklist adapted from Cunningsworth rsquo s Daoud and Celce-Murcia rsquo s Mukundan rsquo s and the National Education Standards Board of Indonesia rsquo s (BSNP) were employed as an evaluation tool. The findings show that the textbook has fulfilled the items of the characteristics of communicative activity by achieving a score of 76.67% of the five characteristics of communicative activity (authenticity interactivity cooperativeness amp collaboration fluency and beyond the classroom) which categorized good based on quality classification proposed by Aniroh (2009). However several parts of the textbook need to be improved by the author and the publisher in terms of specific topics of vocational school s majors and the communicative task or activities.
