An autobiographical study on charles dickens\' oliver twist / Aldo Buntulobo
Abstrak
Charles Dickens is a religious author. He comes from a family that is adhered to Anglican Christian. Young Charles Dickens has attended a Baptist chapel near his house in Chatham that can be evidence his religious thinking. Dickens tries to bring his concern toward The Poor Law of 1834 and the religion of England in Oliver Twist.Using the method of qualitative descriptive this study provides an explanation on how the views feelings and beliefs of the author have shaped the work of literature. The data sources use a novel Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens. Upon collecting the data the process is followed by the author rsquo s biography and autobiography theory.The result of the study shows that the story of Oliver Twist reveals Charles Dickens rsquo disappointment toward the religion issue because of the incompetence of the church system in handling the workhouse also The Poor Law of 1834 that make the poor suffer. This become the most important issue to discuss.It then can be concluded that it is important to analyze the life of the author. By understanding the author rsquo s life it makes one able to comprehend the author rsquo s work of literature. For English literary students it is suggested to figure out more about the importance of appreciating the author rsquo s work by studying his/her life.
