The findings of this research indicate that types of Western cultural content in EFL teaching material and media used by teachers in Islamic-based schools in Malang are CWT (Contextualized Writing Task) DTM (Descriptive Text Material) and VI (Visual Illustration). Furthermore the content represents a cultural element that is deemed to be contradictory to Islamic values. The cultural element includes art and literature (music and opera) social organization (male-female interaction) and custom and tradition (behavior and norms). The research also revealed three Islamic organizations regarded as Islamic puritan movements namely Salafi Hidayatullah and Muhammadiyah. EFL teachers rsquo attitudes toward Western culture in Islamic-based schools which followed Salafi appeared to be negative. Meanwhile Muhammadiyah appeared to be positive. Last but not least is teacher rsquo s attitude in Islamic-based schools followed Hidayatullah which shows an ambivalent attitude.
