EFL teachers’ strategies in teaching four language skills during online learning / Hardina Durrotun Ni\'mah

Abstrak
EFL teachers nowadays are required to have knowledge and skills of various teaching strategies. The teaching of English as a foreign language is intended to fulfill the demand for mastering all four language skills listening speaking reading and writing. However with the expansion of online learning where teaching is done remotely and on digital platforms education has shifted drastically. Teachers are facing new challenges as they transition from offline to online instructional strategies. As a response choosing the right strategy to assist teaching activities is essential. This research employed a multiple case study to determine how EFL teachers implemented strategies in teaching four language skills (speaking listening reading and writing) during online learning. Three teachers from various backgrounds in upper secondary school were the participants of this research. On the basis of the preliminary data the subjects were purposely chosen. A questionnaire from the students is used prior to subject selection. Following the completion of the questionnaire three teachers were selected from a total of nine teachers based on the favorable responses from their students consequently teachers with the greatest positive responses from three different schools were selected as participants in this research. Three tools were employed in this research Field Note Interview and Archival Record Documents. The research found that teachers teaching strategies for teaching four skills are focused on the idea of students convenience better access and ease of learning during online teaching. Teachers employ technology and platforms to engage students in the learning process activities. To assist their online teaching activities the teachers use WhatsApp LMS Google Meet Zoom Meeting and their schools E-learning. Teachers exploration of ICT on the other hand is limited by their prior experiences with technology as well as the students situation which is limited to internet signal and data learning motivation participation and proficiency. Furthermore as subjects all three teachers apply General English materials. Despite the fact that one of them is a Vocational High School teacher the topics for Vocational High School students are still relevant to the students rsquo academic major.
