The use of code switching and code mixing in the film “bumi manusia” to represent social class in the colonial era. / Siti Qomariyah Arafat
Abstrak
Departing from the utilization of code switching and mixing for identity construction this current study specifically aims to investigate types of code-switching and mixing used found in the film of Bumi Manusia and how the switched and mixed codes found in the film could reflect the social class during colonial era. This study uses the subjection method. The data was collected by eliciting the switched and mixed expressions uttered by the whole characters ndash 13 characters ndash in Bumi Manusia as the primary data source. The finding shows that all the types of code-mixing and switching investigated including intern and extern appeared to be used in various settings to construct different purposes.
