Micromemes : structural analysis of internet meme through visual semiotic / Mochammad Rofit Maulana
Abstrak
In the wake of digital technologies a new way of expressionism emerges. Conveying ideas through any kind of visual medium has undoubtedly become one of our primary means of communication. One of those visual mediums is internet memes. Coined in 1979 by Richard Dawkins in his book The Selfish Gene memes have become a major part of digital society in the age of participatory culture. This study will structurally analyze an internet meme through visual semiotic analysis by scrutinizing any symbols and signified meanings of each intrinsic visual property contained within an internet meme and then reconstruct it again to try to conclude and articulate any ideas that might be contained in an internet meme as a whole.
