Utilizing “national geographic” videos to improve the students’ ability in writing a report text / Nadya Firdaus
Abstrak
This research aimed at increasing students rsquo ability in writing a report text by utilizing ldquo National Geographic rdquo videos. Collaborative Classroom Action Research (CCAR) was applied to conduct this research in four steps planning action observation and reflection. The participants in this research were 21 students of the ninth grade and an English teacher of SMPN 3 Tugu Trenggalek as the collaborator. Assessing the classroom problem (reconnaissance) was conducted to know the background of the students rsquo writing competence. After that planning stage teaching scenario ldquo National Geographic rdquo videos scoring rubric field notes and writing test were prepared. To implement the action this research was divided into five meetings including the final test. While doing the action observation of the utilizing the video was done. The last step of this study was reflection done by comparing students rsquo final test with criteria of success and test score in the reconnaissance stage. The result revealed that utilizing ldquo National Geographic rdquo videos succeeded in improving students rsquo competence in writing report text. It can be proven from the improvement of students rsquo writing score which was the average score in reconnaissance was 66.85 and the average score of final test was 78.90. 85.71% of students rsquo score met the criteria of success which was 70.
