Factors causing Highschool Students anxiety when speaking english / Muhammad Fadhil Hamdani

Abstrak
One of the issues high school students frequently have when studying English is speaking anxiety. This study aims to find out factors causing high school students anxiety when speaking English and how students overcome their anxiety. Quantitative and qualitative methods have been used in this study. The researchers collected the data using a questionnaire based on FLCAS questionnaires which have been modified into FLSAQ and interviews. The research was conducted in SMAN 1 Lawang. The results of this study showed that from 226 respondents of 11th grade high school students of SMAN 1 Lawang have a medium level of speaking anxiety with an average score of 59.36 from 90 and 3.30 from 5 mean score. The cause of the speaking anxiety experienced by the respondent is communication apprehension test anxiety and fear of negative evaluation. Students have a number of ways to overcome the anxiety for example by having relaxation preparation positive thinking peer seeking and resignation strategy.
