New historicist analysis of timo tjahjanto’s horror movies as a shift of cultural stereotype in the nation / Galih Janggan Titian

Abstrak
Timo Tjahjanto rsquo s horror movies are very different from Indonesian horror movies since the rise of Suzanna rsquo s popularity in Indonesia from the 1970s until the 2010s. Most previous Indonesian horror movies show specific stereotypes of at the time which reflect the mindset of the general Indonesian audience. From the New Historicist perspective Indonesian horror movies since the rise of the popularity of Indonesian horror movies in the 1970s (as mentioned above) are a product of the culture that are related to the era in Indonesian history during which those movies are released and the aspects of Timo Tjahjanto rsquo s horror movies also reflect the culture in Indonesia during the period in Indonesian history during which his movies were released. As such the analysis of the differences between previous Indonesian horror movies and Timo Tjahjanto rsquo s horror movies show how the culture has shifted in the different time periods in Indonesian history. The shift of culture that is shown in this research is analyzed from a New Historicist point of view meaning that the movies by Timo Tjahjanto that are discussed in this article reflect the culture of the Indonesian audience today and how it has developed through the years since the 1970s until the present day.
