Abstrak
The development of science and technology has allowed the language to develop as time goes by. Throughout its development language also gains more vocabulary by taking terms from foreign languages and adapting them to the local language. This study uncovered the characteristics of the use of English loanwords in technology news on IDNTimes.com news portal by knowing the types of loanwords used there and the frequency of the vocabulary. While some research about loanwords in media was conducted such as Sekarrosa (2014) Hanan et al. (2018) and Hermawan (2018) the researcher aims to further expand the research by uncovering the original form of the vocabulary as well as the context of the use of loanwords. The researcher used a qualitative method by collecting the loanwords counting their frequency of their appearance in all of the sampled articles and tracking their meanings as well as their original form. For this purpose the researcher used Kamus Besar Bahasa Indonesia (KBBI) Merriam-Webster Dictionary and Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English (LDOCE). As a result there are many borrowed words found but the researcher picked 10 words to be used as an example since these vocabulary are those that the researcher encounters very often. The frequency of all the data is 210 with the word aplikasi being the most frequent data around 58 times.
