Using direct teacher feedback to improve the students\' writing skill in senior high school / Dilla Mesintia

Abstrak
Feedback plays a vital role in productive skills especially writing. Based on the preliminary study most of the eleventh graders in Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 3 Donomulyo claimed that they have difficulties in writing analytical exposition text. They have difficulties using proper vocabulary and grammar. Moreover they also do not understand the generic structures of the analytical exposition text. Recent evidence suggests that giving direct feedback is the best strategy to improve the students rsquo writing skill. The specific objective of this study was to find out the improvement of the students rsquo writing skill by using direct teacher feedback. A cycle of Classroom Action Research was done to discover how direct teacher feedback improves the students rsquo writing skill. The result of the analysis showed that by using direct teacher feedback there is a significant improvement in the students rsquo writing scores. The mean score in the first writing is 59 in the second writing is 72.2 and in the third writing is 81.4. The result showed that twenty-three students or 92% of the students passed the third writing or final writing with the score ge 75. However two students or 8% of the students did not pass the third writing with the score lt 75. The standard minimum score (KKM) for the English subject is 75. There are also four aspects that indicate the students rsquo improvement they are content generic structure grammar and writing mechanics.
