A correlational study on foreign language listening anxiety and listening comprehension / Bagas Raihan Dwinanto Putra
Abstrak
The purpose of this study is to determine the significant relationship between foreign language listening anxiety and listening comprehension. The problem encountered in this study is listening anxiety which prevents students from performing their best at listening classes. The method used is the correlation method. The population of this study was 3rd semester students majoring in English Education at one of the state universities in Indonesia. The sample used was 94 people as research data. The data collection technique used was a questionnaire. Data were analyzed using statistical analysis using SPSS 26. The results of research on the relationship of students foreign language learning anxiety and listening comprehension. The investigation of this current study reveals that the value (r) is -0.379 this indicates a negative correlation between the two variables it is also reinforced by a significant value (2-tailed) which is lower than 0.05 0.000 lt 0.05. The correlation coefficient of -0.379 was also found in the range of -0.35 to -0.49 it can be concluded that there is a moderate negative correlation between foreign language listening anxiety and listening comprehension. It means that if a student s foreign language listening anxiety is high their performance in listening comprehension will be low. Conversely if a student s foreign language listening anxiety is low their performance in listening comprehension will be high.
