The effectiveness of KWL strategy on improving the eighth grade students’ reading ability in recount texts / Prilia Maharani Yustari Putri
Abstrak
The aim of this research was to investigate whether the KWL(Know Want toKnow and Learned) strategy was effective on improving the eighth-grade students rsquo reading ability in recount texts. This study used a quasi-experimental research design The population in this study consisted of all eighth graders at one of the junior high schools in Malang whereas the sample was two classes chosen by the school official. The control group consisted of 32 students while the experimental group consisted of 34 students. The data were collected using pre-test and post-test and then analyzed by using SPSS software The results of the test showed that the post test mean of experiemental group was higher than the controll group. Moreover The data was homogen dan normal so it can be tested using t-test. An independent samplet-test was then used to find the significant difference of post-test score between experimental and controll group. The result of the t-test was 0.039 which was smaller than alpha ( alpha ) score lt 0.05. It meant H0 was rejected and H1 was accepted. In conclusion KWL strategy was effective to improve students rsquo reading ability in recount text for the eight grade students.
