The development of schizophrenia on the main character in that evening sun / Rizka Khurin Nisak

Abstrak
Mental disorder is often portrayed through characters in literary works. An example is That Evening Sun a short story that chronicles the psychological abnormalities of female character named Nancy. Nancy starts to show abnormalities after her husband named Jesus leaves her. While many critics evade the claim that Nancy is schizophrenic in this study I shall demonstrate that her abnormalities are indeed symptoms of schizophrenia. Nancy rsquo s symptoms include several forms of hallucinations a form of delusions and disorganized behavior. Thus I will use schizophrenic theories as the corresponding theories to analyze Nancy in the story. One of the symptoms is that she often hallucinates that Jesus is around her. She also has a delusion that he wants to kill her. In addition Nancy s disorganized behavior is that she does not react when she is close by or when she touches hot objects. The result of this study demonstrates that Nancy suffers from schizophrenia. By reading that Nancy is schizophrenic there will be a new understanding about the plot of this story.
