Defying stereotypes: the depiction of homosexuality in the old guard (2020) / Izza Indriyana

Abstrak
The Old Guard is a comic book adaptation movie produced by Netflix which was released in July 2020. On the surface the movie looks like a generic superhero movie but the one thing that stands out and harvests praises from the critics is the extraordinary portrayal of the queer characters in the movie. I argue that the praises this movie receives is because of how queer characters are portrayed in a non-heteronormative way. This paper will prove that statement by examining the depiction of homosexuality in this movie through the appliance of the heteronormativity and gender binary conceptual frameworks.
