Types of illocutionary acts in taylor swift’s song from the folklore album: cardigan / Alya Sabila Arifiana

TYPES OF ILLOCUTIONARY ACT IN TAYLOR SWIFT rsquo S SONG FROM THE FOLKLORE ALBUM CARDIGAN Yusnita Febrianti S.Pd. M.A. Ph.D Drs. Kukuh Prayitno S. M.A Abstract This study aims to analyze the types of illocutionary acts in Taylor Swift s song entitled Cardigan. This study the theory of classification of illocutionary acts proposed by Searle (1976). The data in this study was analyzed using a descriptive qualitative method. There are 53 data in total that were being examined in this study. For the representative/assertive type there are 38 items of data or 73% of the song lyric for the expressive type there are 13 items of data or 25% of the song lyric and for the commissive type there are only 1 item of data or 1 9% of the song lyric. Based on the analysis the researcher concluded that the representative/assertive type is the most dominant type of illocutionary act in this study accounting for 38% of all instances. Representative/assertive type is essential to use in a song because by describing narrating or stating the details of the storyline it enables the audience to visualize the emotions and experiences that the singer wants to convey.
