An error analysis of the eighth graders’ descriptive text writing / Galuh Adibhakti
Abstrak
Listening reading speaking and writing are the four abilities that must be mastered in order to master language acquisition. Writing ability is used to determine not only how well a student knows a second or foreign language but also how well they can express themselves in English. Writing is tough skill to acquire and it is inevitable that students will make an error in their writing. This purpose of this research is to analyze the errors made by the eighth graders in their descriptive text writing. The subject of this research was Grade 8 students of SMPN 21 Malang and used the descriptive qualitative method. The instrument used in this research was the students rsquo descriptive text writing. The researcher used theory by Dulay Burt and Krashen (1982) to analyze how many errors that the students made in percentage. The result of this research is that the errors that were made by students were four types of grammatical errors namely misformation (51 errors 34%) omission (44 errors 29.33%) addition (34 errors 22.67%) and misordering (21 errors 14%).
