The correlation between social media exposure and students’ ability in EFL writing / Mujiati Wulan Sari

Abstrak
Internet and social media facilities are growing more significant and playing a crucial role in many human activities including education. Knowing that the majority of social media interactions include written communication it could be assumed that this exposure to students rsquo writing ability might have a positive and negative impact. Therefore this research aimed to find the correlation between social media exposure and students rsquo writing ability. The research design utilized was correlational research. The data in this research was collected from a questionnaire and a writing test. From those instruments the students rsquo responses about their habit of using social media and students rsquo writing scores were obtained. The researcher conducted this research at Public Senior High School 1 at Purwosari Pasuruan Regency East Java Indonesia. The sample taken was 70 tenth-grade students. The data was then analyzed by using statistical methods through SPSS. The findings of the research revealed that the relationship between social media exposure and students rsquo writing ability has a negative correlation with the value r -0 271 and significance 0 023 le 0 05.
