Erotic reference in atlesta’s sensation songs: a semiotics analysis / Nimelenia Prabenkkary Nimas Apriliananda

Abstrak
Rapidly evolving discursive meanings associated with eroticism turning to prostitution pornography and obscenity pose a challenge to the expression of erotica in Indonesia as indicated by studies in this field. Atlesta an Indonesian singer who has managed to reverberate his erotic compositions for over ten years faces the challenge as the ease of access to online streaming of songs becomes increasingly difficult to control after the inclusion of an article review about his album in the Indonesian Junior High School textbook. How things relating to sex are expressed is a unique element of erotica and it is one of the significant differences between eroticism and pornography. Using the theory of two-order signification put forward by Barthes (1957) to find what are the meanings of the signs in the songs rsquo lyrics this study aims to reveal the references to eroticism in Atlesta s Sensation Album. The significance of this analysis is supported by Lefranc s conclusion (2017) which highlights the transformative power of sexual cues in turning works into erotica proving that the songs on the Sensation album are rife with erotica.
