The eighth graders’ perceptions towards the use of whatsapp in english online learning / Maulida Nailul Camalia

Abstrak
English online learning is a learning process carried out virtually using interactive audio-visual media. WhatsApp is one of the messenger applications with various features like sending and receiving pictures videos files individual or group voice calls individual or group video calls and voice notes. This study aimed to identify the eighth graders perceptions of the use of WhatsApp in English online learning. This research used a survey research design with a questionnaire as the instrument. Based on the results English online learning using WhatsApp for eighth graders is included in the effective category. WhatsApp was an easy-to-use application and could send material easily. The features could be used to discuss things with their teacher and classmates. Learning media that were easily accessed by students could improve English skills such as speaking listening reading and writing. It also increased students confidence in expressing their opinions. The students were happy with this online mode as it was easy to access and practical to use. Moreover by using this media the students thought that their English competence was developed. Thus they would still continue to use WhatsApp in learning English.
