Is it women’s or men\'s fault when sexual harassment happens? a transitivity analysis of rabbani hijab advertisements / Azmy Zainur Rahma Ilmassafa

Abstrak
This study investigated the transitivity patterns in Rabbani Hijab advertisements. The research objectives are to discover the distribution of six types of transitivity processes in Rabbani advertisements and the impact of the use of the transitivity process on the overall meaning of Rabbani advertisements. The research method used in this research was a descriptive qualitative and quantitative method. The data was collected from Rabbani Hijab social media account and the internet. The data was translated into English and then classified into clauses based on the transitivity system (Eggins 2004). The results of the research reveal that the process types found in the speech are material (11) relational (9) mental (3) existential (2) and behavioural (1). No verbal process was found in the advertisement. By using these processes Rabbani urges women to wear modest clothes and persuades them to think about whether wearing revealing clothes is the reason they get harassed sexually. Also Rabbani tried to make the public acknowledge their brand image as one that cares about women rsquo s value and well-being. However since Rabbani proposed ideas that offended the public in their campaigns they failed to build positive brand image and might get acknowledged by public merely for their boldness.
