An analysis of plot in osamu dazai’s no longer human / Diva Sania Lukman
Abstrak
No Longer Human is a Japanese novel that portrays the life journey of a young man named Yozo Oba. Narrating the novel in the first person the author incorporates numerous episodes from the main character s turbulent life into three notebooks. This study adopts an intrinsic approach focusing on the relation of elements with the plot. In this study I employ Russell rsquo s (2019) plot elements which consist of exposition conflict rising action climax and denouement to identify the type of plot in No Longer Human and Aristotle s theory which argues that every event is a consequence of a cause. The result of the study shows that the plot in No Longer Human has a similar characteristic to the flashback plot by Russell. This study can be used to show additional knowledge in literature especially in the scope of plots.
