Ele students\' perceptions towards terms and words choices in academic writing / Adi RIan Sudrajat
Abstrak
The right diction and terms we choose are crucial for academic writing. This research aims to understand if students pay attention to word choice in their writing and to investigate their perspective on the topic of writing and the words they choose. A qualitative descriptive approach was used to gain a deeper understanding of the student s point of view on word and term choice while writing on a specific subject. The research focused on English department students who sometimes intentionally use incoherent or misinterpreted words in their writing to make it easier for themselves but harder for others to understand. The study found that most students are interested in improving their ability to select words and terms. However some students may feel pressured to use advanced or technical language and may struggle to express their ideas effectively. Teachers should promote strategies to improve students word and term selection especially for academic writing purposes.
