Students\' perception of gender equality in when english rings a bell for eighth grade students / Jasmine Setya Nur Fadlilah
Abstrak
In this era the issue of gender equality became crucial especially among the young generation. The different portrayal of gender roles in the textbook When English Rings a Bell that is used in school becomes important. This study aims to see the students rsquo perception regarding use of gender throughout the materials inside the textbook When English Rings A Bell so that the female and male students would critically understand that they have equal opportunities despite their genders. This study was conducted in a qualitative approach with the method of content analysis for the students rsquo perception whereas the subject of this study was the gender usage in the textbook When English Rings A Bell for Grade Eight students meanwhile the participants were selected from the Grade Eight students in SMP Negeri 3 Batam. This study used questionnaire and interview as the research instruments through online Google forms for twenty students ten for each of female and male students. The answers for the interview and the questionnaire determined the students rsquo view regarding the fairness and equality for both genders in the textbook. The result shows that the gender role distribution is equal through the students rsquo perspective.
