An evaluation of “basic english”: a third graders’ textbook / Susmitha Irvianti

Abstrak
This study was aimed to evaluate the suitability of a textbook entitled ldquo Basic English rdquo for the third graders. The analysis was based on the criteria proposed by Cunningsworth (1995) and Badan Standar Nasional Pendidikan (BSNP). The design of this study is descriptive qualitative with two instruments to collect the data i.e. an evaluation sheet based on Cunningsworth rsquo s criteriaand another evaluation sheet based on BSNP rsquo s. The result of this study shows that according to criteria by Cunningsworth this book is categorized as excellent with an average score of 3.33. This book is also categorized as excellent based on criteria by BSNP with an average score of 3.65. Due to the excellent result this book is suitable to be used as a learning and teaching material.
