Sarcastic utterances and the impact of social variables in imperfect the series / Afnisa Salma Nahla Herdianto

Abstrak
This study aims to reveal the purpose of sarcastic utterances and the impact of social variables (the friend situational and non-friend situational) in sarcastic utterances found in Imperfect the Series Season 1 Episodes 1-2. The series was directed by Ernest Prakasa and aired from 27 January 2021 until 25 February 2021. Within the exploration 43 Sarcastic utterances were found and analyzed using Attardo s (2001) theory. The result comes up with the sophisticated sarcastic purpose type having the highest number with 17 total remarks and its frequency is 39.5%. In these sarcastic utterances. This study also analyzed the social variables (Social Distance and Power) between the speaker and the speaker target by signifying the difference in sarcastic utterances between friend and non-friend situational. The result came up with the social variable combination E or the friend situation generated 24 sarcastic utterances and it cues that this situation is the most possible situation to utter sarcastic utterances. On the other hand the non-friend situation (combinations of A C D and F) generated 19 sarcastic utterances. This study also calculated the frequency of sarcastic utterances produced by the speaker and the result indicated that the sarcastic utterances were generated every 1.4 minutes.
