We employed a qualitative approach with Allan and Burridge rsquo s (2006) model of dysphemism types as the main framework to classify identify and analyze the data. The data consists of 400 tweets (200 tweets by Smith rsquo s supporters and 200 tweets from Smith rsquo s detractors). The result revealed that supporters and detractors used the same ten types with different results supporters mostly use profane swearing (25 5%) and detractors mostly use a combination of dysphemism (18 5%). Moreover the most dominant function of dysphemism by supporters was to insult another celebrity (45 5%) while the most dominant function of dysphemism by detractors dysphemism was to insult the target (40 0%).
