Abstrak
This study aims to analyze the structure of verbal humor found in the transcription of stand-up comedy performed by Dave Chappelle entitled The Age of Spin. More particularly it focuses on identifying the type of verbal humor as found in the transcription as well as how it is linguistically analyzed using the General Theory of Verbal Humor (GTVH). The data for the study was obtained and has been verified from a website named scrapsfromtheloft.com a shared pop culture website and was exposed to the theory as has been stated. The findings show that nine types of verbal humor have appeared with wit and irony being the most prevalent types of verbal humor in the data study. Additionally as for employing the GTVH for the data study the instrument has yielded two significant indications first the instrument is too joke-centric to be directly applied for stand-up comedy transcription second stand-up comedy is a narrative type of verbal humor because simple narrative has always appeared as the narrative strategy.
