Tari The Sumatran Tiger - Together We Are One: the creation of an English picture book for young Indonesian children / Rahma Sekar Andini

Abstrak
This paper aims to elaborate the creation of the English Picture Book entitled Tari the Sumatran Tiger - Together We Are One and ensure that it is beneficial and fitting for young Indonesian children specifically at the elementary school level. Employing developmental study (Attia amp Edge 2017) this paper focuses on the identification creation and validation of important aspects and needs necessary in an English picture book using frameworks or requirements provided by Cullinan (1981). Validation is taken through semi-structured interviews and focused group discussions obtained from potential future users children parents and teachers. Findings show that important aspects of an English picture book are age compatibility foreign language development book language relatability length theme and illustrations all of which have been successfully implemented in the book. It was also found that the suggested specific age range is 7-9 years old based on the validation process by participants. The present study concludes that the book is ready to publish and should be promoted to be used by children in 2nd to 4th grade elementary schools in Indonesia.
