An evaluation of intensive course reading coursebook / Annendy Rahmaningrum
Abstrak
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the quality of the Intensive Course Reading Coursebook which was used in the Department of English of Universitas Negeri Malang. A checklist of seven variables with 30 items was employed to collect the data. The checklist was adapted from several sources including Sheldon (1988) Cunningsworth (1995) Miekley (2005) and Mukundan et al. (2011). The checklist consisted of seven criteria i.e. practical consideration layout and design suitability to learners activities skills grammar and vocabulary and subject and content. The rating system used in the checklist was a 4-point scale rating. To ensure the reliability of the result an inter-rater reliability was used. The result of the coefficient agreement between the two raters was 0.863 which can be concluded that the agreement was almost perfect according to Landis and Koch rsquo s guide (1997 p. 165). The research findings showed that the Intensive Course Book received a score of 3.4 which was considered as a good course book.
