Reading habits and attitude of undergraduate students at the department of english, universitas negeri malang / Rafida Dian Puspita

Abstrak
Having a good reading habits and positive attitude toward reading is necessary since these are related to the learning process and achievement. Furthermore reading can give students chances to acquire new information and help improve other skills. However many students in Indonesia have not developed good reading habits. Hence this study is intended to find out the reading habits and attitude of 128 undergraduate students in the Department of English Universitas Negeri Malang. The researcher used quantitative approach in this study. For collecting the data a questionnaire was used and shared in Google Form. The findings in this study showed that most of the undergraduate students in the Department of English Universitas Negeri Malang have obtained good reading habits and showed positive attitude toward reading. It is shown that students read various kinds of books apply some reading strategies to solve their problems in reading and obtain pleasure from reading activity which means that they also show positive attitude toward reading. However they still need to develop their reading habits since they did not consider reading as their leisure time activities such as watch TV watch movies play games open social media drawing etc. and showed low reading frequency.
