English used by Hololive Indonesia Vtubers and language patterns in content creation activities on twitter / Alfian Ferrari Muhammad Khadafi
Abstrak
This research has the purpose and focus to explore in what contexts English is used by Hololive Indonesia VTubers and what kind of language patterns appear in their content. The method used is descriptive qualitative which is used in analyzing the data and to provide a comprehensive and detailed description of the researched phenomenon. Data collection was conducted by making observations and taking documentations of the first and second generation of Hololive Indonesia VTubers Twitter accounts that were selected based on the limitations of this research. From the collected data this study obtained results that discovered what kind of contexts make Hololive Indonesia VTubers use English. The contexts include to interact with fans to interact with coworkers or other VTuber and to make formal and informal announcements. Furthermore this research also succeeded in finding the most dominant language patterns arising from their use of English which are code-switching and code-mixing. Code-switching and code-mixing are language patterns used for communication purposes and are related to the fields of sociolinguistics and grammar. All of these findings show us the variations in the use of English as a lingua franca or as a medium of intercommunication. Thus in each context of its use it has the potential to be followed by emerging language patterns in every content.
