Writing anxiety, self-efficacy, and writing performance among efl university students / Gusti Puspita Nirwana

Nirwana, Gusti Puspita - Nama Orang;

Abstrak
Writing anxiety and self-efficacy have a relationship in terms of emotional arousal but neither has a significantly positive correlation in terms of writing performance. In Quantitative research method a researcher employed descriptive statistics and correlation with Spearman s rho formula. Data was collected using an e-questionnaire after students finished the thesis proposal seminar. The student anxiety scale (SLWAI) has 22 items the scientific writing self-efficacy scale (SWSS) has 20 items and writing performance on the Grading Point Average (GPA) grading system scale has 9 items. This research used simple random sampling for the small population of overall Masters Cohort 2020 of English Education (ELE) students at the State University of Malang. There were 35 students in the Master of ELE cohort 2020 to fill out the online questionnaire about their anxiety and self-efficacy in writing performance in a thesis proposal. Thus the instruments were used SLWAI and EWSS designed to assess students writing anxiety and self-efficacy in academic writing performance of thesis proposal. As a result by using descriptive statistics 94% of the respondents completed the questionnaire and the scores were determined to average anxiety was 67.29 and self-efficacy was 73.80. There are 61% of the students had low writing anxiety and 40% of the students had moderate. In their thesis proposal writing results approximately 58% received an A and 42% received an A-. Then with a correlation using Spearman s rho test it shows that there is no correlation between writing anxiety self-efficacy and thesis proposal writing performance. However there is a correlation between writing anxiety and self-efficacy in emotional arousal.
