Students’ perception of the use of graded reader’s books to develop their english reading skills / Achmad Rizky Akbar Maulana
Abstrak
This study explores the perspectives of EFL students regarding the utilization of graded reader rsquo s books in an ESAC to enrich their reading comprehension. Graded reader rsquo s books are categorized into six difficulty levels and offer diverse vocabulary and comprehension challenges. The books provide the readers with many kinds of topics that they can choose freely. In this research an online questionnaire is administered to eighth-semester students of English Language Education (ELE) and English Language and Literature (ELL) to gather data. The total participants are 17 students. The quantitative results from close-ended questions reflect a favorable attitude and perception towards graded reader rsquo s books revealing that students gain pleasure and confidence from reading graded reader rsquo s books. Furthermore the qualitative results from open-ended questions highlight the perceived barriers faced by students including vocabulary and grammatical challenges and issues with motivation while also highlighting the advantages such as the ability to select appropriate reading materials and acquire general knowledge.
