Critical discourse analysis of Donald J. Trump’s racist speeches / Indi Faradila Enggrianto
Abstrak
This study aims to analyze Donald J. Trump s campaign speech videos in the 2016-2017 United States Presidential Election in YouTube media using Roger Fowler s (1979) CDA model. CDA helps this research to focus on political speech and ideology and forces the reader or listener to understand specific realities through language. The use of Fowler s (1979) theory has assisted the researcher in test the correlation between discourse structure Trump s ideology and how the language is used. This research also used a descriptive qualitative research design. A total of forty-four speech data were collected and sorted into twenty-five data selected to find the best-suited illustration for the issue. The discourse structures that will be discussed are focused on the use of vocabulary making a classification making view boundaries discourse battles and marginalization. The researcher found that Trump rsquo s speech was proven to be racist based on the discourse structure also according to his ideology and how he expressed the language through his utterances has impacted the audience by creating a negative presentation of minority groups in America by cornering them exaggeratedly and spreading bad rumors about the immigrants implicitly.
