Abstrak
The existence of religious tourism is often associated with myths that are ingrained in society. One such example is the Religious Tourism of Gumuk Kancil Beach believed to be guarded by a three-legged deer. The research aims to understand the social construction of the community towards the religious tourism of Gumuk Kancil Beach. The study utilizes a qualitative descriptive method with observations interviews and documentation employing a phenomenological approach. Informant selection utilizes purposive sampling to obtain primary and secondary data. Data analysis involves data collection data reduction data presentation and conclusions supported by Berger and Luckman s theory of social construction namely externalization objectification and internalization. The results indicate that besides being a beach resort there is a plan to build five places of worship namely Islam Hinduism Buddhism Christianity and Confucianism in one location. Additionally visitors and locals are seen engaging in religious activities hence the designation as religious tourism. The development of tourism receives assistance from the Village Chief PT Bumi Sukses Indo (BSI) and the community. However the dissemination of information about the existence of tourism is still lacking resulting in few visitors. Therefore to increase the number of visitors the management creates signposts leading to the tourist attraction and plans to add supporting facilities and infrastructure such as swimming pools accommodations playgrounds and football fields. With the presence of religious tourism and the existence of five places of worship a high level of tolerance will be created in one place of worship because they are built in close proximity.
