Fifth semester english language education students’ perceptions on the impact of ted talks videos in extensive listening to improve their listening skills and vocabulary mastery / Annisaa Nuur Rahmah

Abstrak
This research aims to investigates fifth semester English Language Education students rsquo experiences and their perceptions on the impact of TED Talks videos as extensive listening activities to improve their listening skills and vocabulary mastery. The design of this research used survey as a method involving 30 fifth semester English Language Education students of Universitas Negeri Malang. The researcher categorized the participants based on their UKBIng score namely 10 pre-advanced students 14 advanced students and 6 special advanced students to see how students across proficiency level perceive TED Talks videos. Data collection was conducted using questionnaire and interviews. Students experienced and perceived TED Talks videos as beneficial in three aspects. The first is the behavioral intention to use of TED Talks videos including students rsquo knowledge frequency time spend and students rsquo preference when watching TED Talks videos. The second is the ease of use of TED Talks videos and the third is the usefulness of TED Talks videos. The findings show that students of all proficiency levels demonstrate positive perception of watching TED Talks videos and believed that it was effective to improve their language skills especially listening skills and vocabulary mastery motivation and personal development. However students faced some challenges to understand TED Talks videos due to unfamiliar vocabulary fast-paced speech and the length of TED Talks videos. Therefore the result of this research may be useful for students to strengthen their English language skills and develop their personal skills.
