This study investigated the students rsquo perception on technology used through the implementation of TPACK design to foster autonomy in speaking skills. The research employed survey design to the eighth and ninth graders of Junior High School students in ten private and public Junior High Schools and Madrasah Tsanawiyah in the regency of Sidoarjo as the target population of the study. The questionnaire used as the primary instrument was distributed to 299 samples following a semi ndash structured interview conducted to 20 students as the representative sample. Many studies had proven the use of technology in English classroom is beneficial to the development of language teaching and learning in which technology helps teachers and learners in building and stimulating creativity passsion motivation and autonomy. However how the students perceive on the use techonology to foster autonomy in speaking skill needs to be investigated because speaking English as a foreign language is not easy especially for the Junior High School students they needsself willingness to abe able to speak fluently by using many media such as technology. The finding of this study indicates that most Junior High Schools students tend to have a positive perception on the use of technology in English classrooms to learn speaking skill using TPACK design in the classroom. The students rsquo perception is supported by English teachers who agreed with the students who mention that the appropriate technology implemented in TPACK design used by English teachers can foster autonomy in speaking skill because according to them speaking was the least skill taught by the teachers at their schools so the use of technology could help them to learn independently. Students also mentioned some learning activities that foster autonomy to improve their speaking skill utilized by some technological tools such as learning management system (LMS) online platforms language learning apps online games videos or films listening and singing English song watching movies or drama using Youtube media playing games with English language joining English course role playing with friends and speaking focusing on fluency not grammar. The students also mentioned that the technological tools build students rsquo vocabulary mastery that assist them to a successful communication It can be concluded that the result of this study is very beneficial for teachers to enhance the students engagement in the learning process and improve the learning outcomes of students in speaking skill by using technology that aligns with students rsquo interests and preferences. However since this study was based on students rsquo s perception it is suggested that the future researchers investigate more on this topic by using empirical data as the triangulation to prove the English improvement.
