An eerie nightmare stop-motion: semiotics analysis of the house (2022) / Alifa Khoirun Nida
Abstrak
The semiotics analysis employed in this study aims to discover the hidden meaning of the sign in a movie. This study explores the eerie atmosphere in certain scenes from Netflix rsquo s 2022 stop-motion film The House. The meaning and the eerie atmosphere were obtained through the analysis of denotation connotation and myth. This study used a descriptive qualitative methodology combined with an interpretative approach based on Roland Barthes s semiotics theory. The results of the study show that three aspects make The House feel eerie. The animation the character and the story are what makes The House feel eerie. Another aspect that makes The House feel more eerie is the themes in each story which are related to each other. The first theme is money and materialism. The second theme is a house that physically reflects its owner. The third theme is the impact of the outsider on the main character the house s owner. The first story tells about how greed can change the life of a family. The second story is about how desperation can change a life. Finally the third story tells about how dependence can change life. Here of course not everything can change for the better or the worse.
