Abstrak
For Indonesians Mandarin Chinese is considered one of the challenging foreign languages to master. This is due to significant differences in pronunciation between Mandarin vocabulary and Indonesian. Incorrect pronunciation often becomes a barrier for learners especially given the thousands of Mandarin words with similar tones. The aim of this study is to identify the forms of pronunciation errors in affricate consonants (j q zh ch z c) and analyze the factors influencing these pronunciation errors. The author opted for a qualitative descriptive research method because the data obtained will be presented using descriptive statements. Data collection methods in this study included the use of oral test sheets and questionnaires as tools for gathering information. Based on the researchers findings it was discovered that the pronunciation errors in affricate consonants (j q zh ch z c) involve the substitution of consonant phonemes. Factors contributing to these pronunciation errors include interference from the native language insufficient mastery of affricate consonant pronunciation materials among students and inherent difficulties in Mandarin itself.
