Using vlogs to improve students\' speaking skills in descriptive texts / SORAYA AISYAH
Abstrak
Most schools prioritize English as the important skill for students to explore particularly in educational aspects. However most students stated that learning English makes students overwhelmed because of several factors. Using a video blog (Vlog) is one of the effective ways to develop the student rsquo s speaking skills. The participants in this study were the students of SMPN 1 Panarukan Grade VII B consisting of 30 students that divided into 16 male and 14 female students using the Classroom Action Research (CAR) method as related to Participatory Action Research (PAR) collaborated with English teachers. This method is implemented in four steps planning acting observing and reflecting. The data collection method uses questionnaires observations and tests. The findings showed that students speaking skills improved since 85% of students reached the post-test minimum score as one of the success criteria. However in cycle 1 only reached 48.34% but the cycle 1 was improved since the pretest only reached 28.34%. In addition the observation sheets showed that 80% of students could actively engaged on the learning process and it was confirmed by the students after there were 93.5% of students agreed that the vlog is beneficial for their speaking skills improvement. Based on the data provided the vlog practice can be used as an alternative solution to enhance the student rsquo s speaking skills. It potentially boosts the students communication skills including pronunciation and vocabulary.
