Big book-based strategy to improve the seventh graders\' speaking performance / Yaqutatul Yumna Nur Rosyidah

Abstrak
A big book filled with raised texts images and unique shapes and colors has a potential to improve students English proficiency. Researchers have chosen big books to improve students self-confidence when speaking in public filling students minds with ideas and information simplifying the process and reducing confusion. The present study aims to examine the effectiveness of big book as media in enhancing the 7th graders rsquo speaking proficency at SMP Plus Rahmat Kediri with the hypothesis that the use of big book media can improve students speaking performance. This study employs an experimental research design with the research sample being 43 grade 7 students divided into grades 7A and 7C. The 7B wasn rsquo t used because it often crashes with istighosah or Jumat Berkah event or joint prayer event which are always held 1 hour before English subjects. The effect of the big book on students is done by applying the big book in one class and comparing the results with another class. The research data were processed through the application of statistical analysis techniques such as normality test homogeneity test t-test and N-Gain test. The results of the research indicated that the implementation of the Big Book media can improve the speaking ability of 7th grade SMP Plus Rahmat Kediri students.
